I found I had to keep checking on what date each chapter was supposed to take place and I was relieved when I worked out that from 18 June 1973 the story was just told as it happened I was also very puzzled by the wonderfully written introductory passage in italics about railways and then we went straight into 19 April 1961 By the time I reached Simon and Andy Galbraith in June 1973 I had forgotten that it was Simon who had been 'moving through
